I thought I would start this off by
letting you all know how I decided to start this little premise of sharing my
ideas.
I was talking to my mentor, who also
happens to be a therapist. We were talking about a variety of things related to
helping oneself overcome past adversities and creating an atmosphere of
improved mental and physical health. After discussing various ideas I had
related to these concepts, she said, “You should do this.” I thought “Oh no
way! I am almost done with my doctorate. There’s no way I’m starting over with
a new major!” She wasn’t; however, talking about me becoming a therapist. She
said that I had good ideas, communicated well, and was very good at analogies. Needless to say, I was relieved. I have always
loved to write and I thought this was an interesting way of exploring thoughts
I had and communicating them to others. Therefore, with this “Light bulb moment”
in mind I set about my new adventure.
I don’t claim to be an expert in any of the things I am going to discuss in the blog. Anything I mention with
regard to health should be discussed with your personal physician before
undertaking any change that might affect your health. Most of what I discuss
will involve a change in mental attitude, which is always the first step in any
change. As I said, I am no expert. These things are just musings and ideas that
make sense to me, hence the title. I promise not to get too heavy handed and I
also promise to interject some humor, or at least what I consider humor. Being
able to look at life with a light heart is often a necessary step toward
